Why Was I Charged When I Published or Linked My First Product?

Explains why publishing a product in Zendrop automatically triggers a UBB tier charge, how peak-usage billing works, and what to do if the charge was unexpected.

You added your first product to your store and a charge appeared. You didn't explicitly upgrade a plan, but the billing changed anyway. Here's exactly why that happened.

How publishing a product links it to your account

When you publish a product from your Import List to your Shopify store, Zendrop links it to your account instantly. That link registers in real time. There's no separate activation step and no confirmation prompt. The moment a product goes live on your store, it counts as a linked product.

Why that link moves you to a paid tier

Zendrop's Usage-Based Billing (UBB) model charges based on the highest number of products you had linked during a billing cycle, not the number linked right now. Your first linked product moved your account from the Free plan to the Beginner plan.

Once you reach a tier during a billing cycle, that tier locks in for the rest of the cycle. Unlinking a product after that doesn't reduce the current cycle's charge, the peak is already set.

On a free trial? If you link a product before your trial ends, that tier locks in the moment billing starts.

How to avoid unexpected charges next cycle

The Free plan only applies when your linked product count is zero at the start of a billing cycle. Unlink any products you're not actively selling before the next cycle begins to drop back to $0.

To unlink a product:

  1. Go to My Products in your Zendrop dashboard.

  2. Select the product.

  3. Click Unlink.

What to do if the charge was unexpected

If the charge appeared within the last 5 days, check your refund eligibility. You qualify for a standard refund when all three of these conditions apply:

  • The charge date is within 5 days of today.

  • You haven't used order credits during the current billing cycle.

  • All outstanding invoices on your account are paid.

To review your billing status and current cycle details, go to Billing in your Zendrop dashboard.

Check how many products are currently linked in My Products and unlink anything you're not actively selling. That's the fastest way to make sure your next billing cycle starts at the right tier.
