How to set up subscription boxes.

Similar to the Product Bundle feature, Subscription Boxes allow you to create product bundles that are a subscription your customers can pay for on a monthly basis. For example, if you sell watches, you can create a subscription box where you send a different watch each month to your subscribers!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Subscription Boxes are only available on the Plus plan.

Now, this feature actually works hand in hand with Product Bundles. So, you'll need to create the bundles you'll be using for your Subscription Boxes via the Product Bundles tab. As seen in the image above, there are three different bundle packs already created. Let's see how we create a subscription.

Click on the Subscription Boxes tab then click on the Create a Subscription Box button.

This window is where you'll be able to name your subscription, and search for your already created bundles for each month using the Search Bundle fields.

Once you've added a bundle to Month 1 and Month 2, you can add additional months by clicking the Add a Month button. By default, two months are required, and additional months are optional.

Once you're satisfied, click the Create button, and that's all there is to it. You'll see that the subscription box has been created, and ready for you to add it to your Import List.

One last thing to note is that you can hover over the "x months configured" text to reveal a tooltip showing what bundles are a part of that specific subscription box.

USING BOLD OR RECHARGE

To go a step further, you can use Shopify apps like Bold or ReCharge to create recurring subscriptions. For example, if you're dropshipping a type of food, makeup, pet supplies, whatever the case may be, you can have those products ship out every x amount of days, weeks, or months on a recurring subscription.

In order to do so, you'll first be required to add one of the apps to your Shopify store. Head over to the Apps page, and click on the Shop For Apps button.

Next up, search for one of the apps, and click the Add App button.

Okay, great! So you've added the app of your choice, and are ready to set up your subscription. Now, keep in mind that this process will be different depending on the app that you chose, but the process is relatively the same. In this example, we're going to use ReCharge. Head over to your Apps page in Shopify, and open up ReCharge. Your products should already be listed here, but if they're not, you'll need to add them by clicking the Add Products button. Regardless, click on a product that you want to update the subscription options for, and you'll land on the page seen in the image above.

The Subscription Type panel is where you'll need to decide on one of two options. If you want to include the option to purchase the product as a one-time item OR as a recurring subscription, you would choose the One-Time & Subscription option. If you only want the product to be purchased as a recurring subscription, then you would want to select the Subscription Only option.

You can offer an incentive to subscribe by setting up a discount, and you can also set up the order schedule by defining how often the product should be shipped out for the subscription.

All of the changes you make here will be displayed in the Product Preview panel. Once you're satisfied with the subscription for the product, click the Save button, and you're good to go!
