Why Did My Payment Fail and How Can I Fix It?

A helpful guide to understand why your payment may have failed and what steps you can take to resolve it.

Updated this week

Sometimes, users may experience payment failures when paying for their subscription or orders on Zendrop. This can happen for a number of reasons, depending on the type of billing and the payment method used.

Below, we’ll walk you through the different subscription types, the most common reasons for failed payments, and what you can do to fix them.

Types of Subscriptions in Zendrop

1. Usage-Based Billing (Shopify Billing)

If your Zendrop subscription is billed through Shopify, your payments are processed directly by Shopify, not by Zendrop.
In this case:

  • Any billing or payment issues should be managed in your Shopify account.

  • You can also contact Shopify Support for further assistance.

2. Direct Subscription (Credit Card on File)

For direct subscriptions, your payment is charged by Zendrop using the credit card stored in your account. If the payment fails, it’s often due to a card-related issue or a restriction from your bank.

Common Reasons Why Payments Fail and How to Fix Them

1. 3D Secure Authentication Not Completed

Your bank may require an additional verification step (known as 3D Secure) to confirm your payment. If this process isn’t completed, your payment will fail.

How to Fix:

  • During checkout, make sure to complete the authentication step prompted by your bank.

  • You’ll typically be redirected to your bank’s secure page to enter a:

    • One-Time Password (OTP), or

    • Verification using your fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN.

  • Completing this step ensures your payment is verified and processed successfully.

3D Secure is part of Visa Secure and Mastercard Identity Check, helping protect you and merchants from fraudulent transactions.

2. Insufficient Funds

If your account doesn’t have enough balance, the payment won’t go through.

How to Fix:

  • Double-check your account balance.

  • Ensure you have sufficient funds before retrying your payment.

3. Payment Declined by the Bank

Your bank may sometimes flag Zendrop transactions as suspicious or unusual, resulting in a declined payment.

How to Fix:

  • Contact your bank issuer and confirm that the transaction from Zendrop is legitimate.

  • Once verified and approved by your bank, try processing the payment again.

4. Incorrect Card Details, Expiration Date, or CVV

Providing incorrect credit card information such as an invalid expiration date or CVV can also cause payment failures.

How to Fix:

  • Double-check that all the credit card details on file are accurate.

  • Ensure the card’s expiration date is still valid.

  • Confirm that the CVV (the three-digit security code on the back of your card) matches the one on your physical card.

Additional Tips

If the payment still fails after trying the steps above:

  • Try adding a new credit or debit card to your Zendrop account.

  • Once added, retry the payment using the new card.

Updating your payment method can often resolve repeated failures caused by outdated or restricted cards.
